Pagekit

About the Tech

Figured some of you would be interested in knowing how I built this blog. For blogging purposes, the go-to solution would be Wordpress. It has tons of plugins and comes with user management out of the box. It also supports a multitude of languages.

For this site, I would not be needing multiple users and I only have a limit of 500MB (sadly due to the limits of the school's server). Wordpress would cost me a greatly ~100MB! So I went on to search for a free and open Content Management System with this awesome list. After some trial and error (finding out Kirby requires a licence to be put on a public server), I came to the decision to use Pagekit!

As I found out, Pagekit is also a great tool for non-coders who just want to blog, curate and collect content for their projects. I can see a few use cases here:

  • status updates on events like conferences/seminars
  • speaker profiles
  • event list
  • member list
  • articles on a topic

One group told me they are going to curate content like spots to eat and sightsee for exchange students with it and I'm looking forward to what they will come up with!
